Answer #1

Solid Red Male (A_ bb) x Solid Black Female (A_ B_) produces Spotted Red Puppy (aa bb)

Since the male parent is solid, red, the dog carries at least one Dominant allele of the A locus, as the phenotype is dominant (Solid). However, since the male dog has a red coat, the dog is homozygous recessive for coat color as the red coat phenotype is recessive to black coat.

Similarly, the Female parent has one dominant allele for both the A and B loci as she displays the dominant characteristics for both traits, solid coat, black coat.

Now, the puppy produced displays both recessive characteristics, a spotted coat and a red coat, therefore, each parent must have at least one recessive allele for each locus, since the gametes that gave rise to this puppy must have been both ab.

Therefore, the genotype of the Male parent is Aabb and the genotype of the female parent is AaBb.
