Question 11.
Polygenic inheritance/ Quantitative inheritance :-
• When single characteristic is controlled by more than two
genes.
For human skin colour -
• Human skin colour is determined by the amount of pigment -
melanin.
• At least four or more genes are involved in melanin
production.
For each gene one allele (dominant) codes for melanin production
amd the other allele (recessive) does not.
• The combination of melanin producing alleles determines the
degree of pigmentation and this leads to continuous variation of
skin colour.
Other factors -
• Environmental factors played a huge role in skin color
determination. High sun exposure and more UV rays led to dark skin
color and low sun exposure and low UV rays led to lightly skin.
the two cream colored guinea pigs produced, in one case, 22 yellow. 47cream, and 19 white. What type of inheritance is this? II. Sex-linked Characteristics 12. In man, colorblindness, an inability to distinguish between red and green, is inherited as a sex-linked character on the X chromosome. It is recessive. If a colorblind man marries a homozygous normal woman what chance is there for the children of being colorblind? If a normal man marries a colorblind woman. where will colorblindness...
6) A colorblind female, blood type A married 2 different men. One man (#1) had type AB blood and was colorblind. The other man (#2) had type B blood and normal color vision. Three offspring resulted from the marriages. If possible, determine the father of each of the following offspring. a) female, Type A blood, normal color vision b) male, Type AB blood, colorblind c) female, Type B blood, colorblind In tomatoes, red fruit color is dominant to yellow. Suppose...
Muffy, a color blind female with blood type A (heterozygous) is married to Biff, who is also color blind and is homozygous for type B blood. Muffy has been having an affair with their gardener, Raoul, who is heterozygous for type B blood and has normal vision. Recall that color blindness is a sex linked recessive condition. Please help Biff’s attorney determine the father of each of the children for the divorce proceedings:a) Female, type A blood, normal visionb) Male,...
Genetics 1. A man with blood type B is the father of a child with blood type A, and the mom is blood type AB. What is the father's genotype? a. not enough information to determine the father's genotype b. AB c. Bo 2. What are the chances that a couple will have a boy with colorblindness, sex-linked recessive if the father is colorblind and the mother is homozygous dominant for normal color vision? a. 0% b. 100% c. 75%...
6) A son with cystic fibrosis (autosomal recessive) is born to a couple who appear to be normal. What is the possible genotype of the parents? 7) A man who is suffering from Huntington's Disease (Autosomal dominant) and is heterozygous for this trait marries a normal woman. What are the chances of this couple having a diseased child? (show Punnett square) 8) Two short tailed (Manx) cats are bred together. They produce three kittens with long tails, six with short...
Sex-linked problem. 7. In humans, the condition for normal vision dominates color blindness; both alleles are linked to the X chromosome. A normal male marries a color-blind female. If they have a daughter, what is the chance she will have normal vision? What about a son? Show your work. Co-dominance (Multiple alleles) problem. 8. In humans, there are three alleles for blood type: A, B, and O. The allele for blood type A and allele for blood type B show...
42. true-breeding (homozygote) red flower plant was bred with a true-breeding pure white flower plant (therefore P generation). What flower color you expect in Fl progeny? a) Only red b) Only white c) Only pink d) Both red and white If F, offspring (from the above question # 41) were crossed with each other, what flower color you expect in F2 progeny? a) Only red b) Only white c) Only pink d) All of the above What phenotype ratio you...
C bb-montgomerycollege.blackboard.com. 4) Alisha has blood type B. Her mother has blood type O. Alisha marries Jared, who has blood type AB What is Alisha's genotype? What is Jared's genotype? Using a Punnett square, determine the probability of the couple having a child with the a. b. c. following: blood type B? blood type O? blood type AB? blood type A?
d. What percent of the offspring will be carriers of the white yel! 2. Using the same information as for question #1, cross a heterozygous red-eyed female with a red-eyed male. 1. What are the genotypes of each parent? b. What fraction of the children will have red eyes? c. What fraction of the children will have white eyes? d. What fraction of the female children will carry the white eyed trait? 3. In humans, hemophilia is a sex-linked recessive...
answer all questions to get a thumbs up 4. A woman has a Widow's peak (dominant), but she does not know her genotype. She marries a man who has a straight hairline and they have 13 children. Nine have widow's peaks and four have straight hairlines a. What are the genotypes of the parents? b. What are the genotypes of the children? C. Explain how you arrived at your answers. G host 5.
