Methanobrevibacter smithii is a prokaryote belonging to the domain archaea and commonly found in human guts. The archaea is hydrogenotrophic meaning that they are able to use hydrogen as their energy source. They are also able to produce methane gas.

M.smithii are unicellular organisms and their cell morphology is coccobacillus as their cell shape is intermediate between coccus which represents spherical shapes and bacillus which represents rod shapes. Many pictures are available for study on the web under the name Methanobrevibacter smithii.
