Question
growth rates provide his whole information because they can tell us something about optimum growth conditions. For example if you were a plot a series of growth curves at various temperatures and calculate the growth rates, you could generate a graph similar to the one at the right.

what is the original growth curve in part 1 obtained at the optimal temperature for this organism? If yes, explain how you knew. if not, can you tell at what temperature the growth curve is determined.

Answer #1

From part 1, Growth rate can be calculated as 0.6 h-1. And doubling time is 0.68 hrs.

No, the original growth curve in part 1 is not obtained at the optimal temperature of this organism. Because the optimal growth rate is around 3 h-1 but here it is very less i.e 0.6 h-1.

From 1st graph we can observe that 0.6 h-1 can be correlated to either 12 oC and 49 oC (approximately). So, the growth curve is determined at 12 oC or 49 oC.

I got your question bit confusing. I have answered as far as I have understood. Sorry for inconvenience. Thank You.

    10. Write a one-page summary of the attached paper? INTRODUCTION Many problems can develop in activated sludge operation that adversely affect effluent quality with origins in the engineering, hydraulic and microbiological components of the process. The real "heart" of the activated sludge system is the development and maintenance of a mixed microbial culture (activated sludge) that treats wastewater and which can be managed. One definition of a wastewater treatment plant operator is a "bug farmer", one who controls the aeration...
