Answer #1

There is one redox reaction during glycolysis. The oxidation of glucose begins during glycolysis. NAD+ accepts the electrons during the oxidation, and as a result it gets reduced to form NADH + H+. (2 NADH are produced. ) If NAD+ is not present, glycolysis will not be able to continue. During aerobic respiration, the NADH formed in glycolysis will be oxidized to reform NAD+ for use in glycolysis again.

At the start of the year, a team of people decides to start a weight-loss journey. They decided to eat mostly high-protein, low-carbohydrate foods such as meat, cheese, and eggs. The amino acids in these protein-rich diets, such as alanine, glycine, and serine, can be converted to pyruvate by deamination (removal of the amino group). Using your knowledge of cellular respiration, how many ATP, NADH, and FADH2 molecules will be generated from one molecule of alanine during the reactions of...

During EMP glycolysis, 1 molecule of glucose is broken down into two molecules of pyruvate and 2 molecules of NADH are produced. During fermentation, 1 molecule of pyruvate is reduced. During this process, one molecule of NADH is oxidized. If 34 molecules of glucose are broken down during glycolysis, and all the resultant molecules of pyruvate are reduced by fermentation, how many molecules of NADH will remain?

Date: Period: 12 4 9 10 Glucose, or any carbon-based molecule, can be burned in oxygen (oxidized) to produce carbon dioxide and water Combustion reactions release large amounts of energy. However, the energy release is uncontrolled. An organism would not be able to handle all that energy at once to do the work of the cell. Cellular respiration is essentially the same reaction as combustion, but the oxidation of glucose occurs in several...
