Male chromosomes are XY and female's are always XX
Male dragon's sex chromosome has the genotype: XMY; M for red color being dominant to m which is green color. Since the male is heterozygous, he will express the dominant allele and thus will have the phenotype of being a red colored dragon
The female dragon's genotype is: XmXm; she is homozygous recessive and with no dominant allele, will always express the recessive allele and thus will be red colored
When they mate:
Genotypes | Xm | Xm |
XM | XMXm | XMXm |
Y | XmY | XmY |
Thus, all the girls (XX) will have the genotype XMXm (2nd row) and will be red in color (expressing the dominant allele M), while the boys (XY) will have the genotype XmY (3rd row) and will be green (expressing the only allele for color which is on the X chromosome and is recessive).

Here is a picture of one individual dragon's chromosomes and the particular alleles it has for each gene. Each line is a chromosome (made up of DNA) and each letter represents an allele for the genes described in the general information on dragon genetics at the top of this assignment. (A gene would be section of DNA that is code for the cell to do something.) However, this picture below cannot be right! Explain briefly -- but with enough detail...
