Answer #1

Q9. A predator is an organism that primarily obtains food by the killing and consuming of other organisms . An apex predator, also known as an alpha predator or top predator, is a predator at the top of a food chain, with no natural predators.

Apex predators are usually defined in terms of trophic dynamics, meaning that they occupy the highest trophic levels. Humans have for many centuries interacted with apex predators including the wolf, birds of prey, and fish respectively.

Although human beings can be attacked by many kinds of animals, man-eaters are those that have incorporated human flesh into their usual diet and actively hunt and kill humans. Most reported cases of man-eaters have involved lions, tigers, leopards, and crocodilians. However, they are not the only predators that will attack humans if given the chance; a wide variety of species have also been known to adopt humans as usual prey, including bears, Komodo dragons and hyenas.

Factors limiting human population: The human population cannot grow for ever. As the population increases it will be more difficult to feed people, and the search for resources can induce wars.
High demographic density will put people closer and closer. This will increase the gravity of a microbial contamination or local pollution.
Because of that, people will be forced to go to not suitable places as deserts, volcanoes, high mountains or unstable or contaminated soils, rising the probability of accidents.
Then is the climate change. Its consequences cannot be predicted for sure, but if the worst predictions are achieved, there will be lots of climate refugees, which as you are seeing as of today, they just will not be accepted easily in other countries, and therefore war can be the result.
With everything in mind it is not probable that the human population will continue to grow much longer at the present rate (about 1 billion each 12 years).

Q10.

We humans are “superpredators.”

Scientists have compared the hunting habits of wild mammals, birds and fishes with those of people. Their new study shows that humans are strange predators. Unlike other animals, we target adult prey in large numbers. That is a practice that can push populations of those prey into decline, the researchers warn.

People mainly target — at least among wild mammals and fishes — prey that are old enough to reproduce. Those are the animals that have babies and keep their populations going. Many baby animals don’t live long enough to become adults. Killing too many of the few that do can shrink groups of wild animals over time.

To avoid that people should switch to the hunting patterns of other mammals or fishes. That would mean targeting young prey, not adults. Also, we would have to take smaller percentages of animal populations than we currently do.

In hunts for grazing mammals on land, people kill about 6% of adult prey a year, the researchers calculated. That’s roughly what wild carnivores kill. What’s unusual about people, though, is their power to turn those other predators into prey. Human predators kill carnivores at about nine times the rate that carnivores kill each other.

Humans are primates without fangs, claws, horns, much running speed or a great sense of smell. But people have guns, nets, vehicles, refrigeration and other technologies. The technologies are used on hunts, And that has given people predatory superpowers.

Humans destroy adult animal population , our habits and lifestyle changes of expanding the area we live destroy their habitats . Being sustainable means that resources are used in a way that allows them to continue to be available long into the future. The biggest effect that people have on wildlife — bigger than any hunting — is their destruction of animal habitat. Thus humans have evolved as “SUPERPREDATORS” and “SUPERDESTRUCTORS”. Humans need to be sustainable and though, that changing human habits would not be easy.
