2. Promoter: A promotrer is defined as a portion of DNA that causes the beginning of the transcription process of a specific gene. They are located near the start site of transcription and in Lac operon, promoter is the site where the binding of the RNA polymerase occurs and begins the process of transcription.

3. Operator: It is the segment of DNA that binds to the repressor. In the Lac operon it is a segment between the promoter and the gene that plays an important part in the regulating the transcription of the Lac operon genes.

4. Ligand: it is a molecule that generates a signal after it binds to a specific site in the target protein. In Lac operon, lactose acts as a ligand for the binding with operator. Allolactose that controls the binding of lactose to operator also acts as a ligand.

5. Repressor: In Lac operon, lactose acts as a repressor that plays an important part in the initiation of the transcription. If lactose is present in the system, then it binds to the operator ad does not allow the binding of RNA polymerase that results in no transcription of the lac genes. On the other hand, if lactose is not present in the system then, it allows the binding of the operator and the RNA polymerase that begins transcription of lac genes.
