Microtubules are formed by the polymerization of alpha and beta tubulin dimer that has GTP binding sites. Tubular dimer can bind to two molecules of GTP. One molecule of GTP is hydrolyzed to provide energy for microtubules assembly. Polymerization occurs only when the concentration of free tubulin dimer is greater than critical concentration.
