In humans and other Mammals, the baby's sex is determined by the presence of either X or Y chromosome. Males have one X and one Y chromosome and females have two X chromosomes. The gender of the baby is determined by which chromosome is carried by the Sperm that fertilizes the egg. If a sperm carries an X chromosome, the Zygote develops into a female and if the sperm carries a Y chromosome the Zygote develops into a male.
