The first paragraph talk about society’s adoption of animal in their life. How the animal once considered dangerous like Wolf now considered less ferocious animal. The cat whose natural home was forest is now domesticated and living with human. The cow, dog, sheep, and horse are being utilized by human according to their purpose.

There is a disease to which the horse from his state of domestication, is frequently subject. The Farrier (a smith who Shoes horse ) has termed this the Grease. It is an inflammation and swelling in the heel of horse from which tissue processing properties of very peculiar kind that seems capable of generating the disease in human body. (After I have undergone the modification which I have presently speak of) This disease bear strong resemblance to small pox, that I think source of that horse disease.   

In second paragraph he might have linked the small pox with horse disease of swelling in heel.
