Answer #1

during electron transport chain NADH and FADH2 are oxidized, 10 H+ are pumped from the matrix to the intermembrane space per NADH and 6 H+ are pumped from the matrix to the intermembrane space per FADH2. when 3 H+ are transported from the inter-membrane space to te matrix by the ATP synthase one ATP is produced so per NADH 3 ATPs are produced and 2 ATPs are produced per FADH2.

1) b) lower, because the FADH2 is oxidized by the complex II, it does not pump any H+ to the intermembrane space so per FADH2 only 6 H+ are pumped into the intermembrane space NADH is oxidized by complex I, it pumps 4 H+ to the intermembrane space that is when NADH is oxidized 10 H+ are pumped to intermembrane space. ( when 3 H+ are transported from the inter-membrane space to the matrix by the ATP synthase one ATP is produced so per NADH 3 ATPs are produced and 2 ATPs are produced per FADH2.)

2) c) 2.during electron transport chain NADH and FADH2 are oxidized, 10 H+ are pumped from the matrix to the intermembrane space per NADH and 6 H+ are pumped from the matrix to the intermembrane space per FADH2. when 3 H+ are transported from the inter-membrane space to te matrix by the ATP synthase one ATP is produced so per NADH 3 ATPs are produced and 2 ATPs are produced per FADH2.

3) 2 NADH are produced by glycolysis, 3 ATPs are produced from one NADH molecule so 2\times3=6, 6 ATPs are produced by the electron transport chain using NADH produced by glycolysis so the answer is b) 6

4) one NADH is produced when pyruvate is converted to acetyl CoA by pyruvate dehydrogenase, from one NADH 3 ATPs are produced, so the answer is a) 3
