Flippases translocate phospholipids from one side of a membrane to the other even against a gradient of concentration. Flipping of membrane embedded lipids containing large polar heads is a slow and energetically unfavourable process, the mechanism of which was until recently, largely unknown. This process is catalysed by transmembrane ATPases called flippases and is essential for maintaining membrane lipid asymmetry, signalling, vescile formation and regulation of membrane protein activity.
First, the group studied effect of ATP on flippase activity. Previous experiments have shown that incubating...
20 The next set of experiments investigated specific metais are required for flippasesc First, RBCs were treated with mixture of an onophors and cheating agent. The inophore "pokes holes in the membranes that ons leak out. The cheating agent binds the lons so they cannot go back inside the cell Following this treatment, the shape change experiments were conducted as usual. After 15 hours, Mgaions were added back to the RBCs. The results are shown in Figure 7. 004 Figure...

Bio 121 I need to make (yeast fermentation) lab report. This is the lab experiment and results: This is a guide to making the lab report: General Biology BIO121 Yeast Fermentation Lab Introduction Organisms stay alive by the utilization of energy through metabolism. The energy acquiring pathways in photosynthesis convert radiant energy from the sun into the chemical bond energy of carbohydrates. This photosynthetic process is limited to the producers or autotrophs, which include plants, photosynthetic bacteria and some protists....
