In an organism with a haplontic life cycle, the adult multicellular organism is haploid , and the time spent between fertilization and meiosis is​​​​​ less than the time spent between meiosis and fertilization.

To understand it better you can refer to the diagram below- Zygote Meiosis yngomy (an v Spores (n) Gametogenesis HAPLONTIC -Gametophyte (n) In haplontic life cycle after fertilization the diploid zygote undergoes meiosis to produce spores which are haploid . The spores then germinate and mature into adult gametophyte which is haploid. It undergoes gametogenesis to produce gametes through mitosis .

As haploid is the dominant phase of this life cycle it is known as haplontic life cycle.
