Answer: Metabolic flux is defined as the rate turnover of molecules or flux of molecules through a metabolic pathway or network. It is controlled by enzymes and rate determining steps in the metabolic pathway. Metabolic flux is also regulated at transcription, translation and post-translation levels. Metabolic pathway consists of both reversible and irreversible reactions. Metabolic flux through irreversible reaction is regulated by enzymes, whereas for reversible reaction, concentration of products or substrates control the flux.
