Barr body is inactive X chromosome.
It carries alleles of homologous active chromosome but is non expressive.
If there is a female calico cat (genotype Xºxº), where the Xº confers orange-colored fur and...

True or False:
Sex chromosomes in mammals Indicate whether each of the following statements about sex chromosomes in mammals is true or false. 01. Dosage compensation involves inactivation of the Y chromosome in males in order to equalize gene expression between the sexes.(Click to select) 02. One of the X chromosomes in each cell of a female is inactivated early in embryonic development, before the embryo's sex is determined. (Click to select) 03. In a female, the same X chromosome...
you adopt a young calico cat from the shelter. before you get a
chance to have her spayed, she becomes pregnant. you are not sure
who fathered the kittens, but when they are born, half are full

WHAT MUST THE MOM's dilute genotype be if she is full color but
all of her non-orange kittens are grey? and What color is the
father then, assuming he is not all white?

In cats with tortoiseshell coat color, the fur is white with patchy black and orange spots. In cats, the tortoiseshell gene is on the X chromosome, and the tortoiseshell phenotype requires the presence of 2 different alleles at this locus: one for orange fur (o) and one for black fur (b). What phenomenon best explains why female cats can inherit tortoiseshell coat color? In females, the alleles for coat color are pleiotropic, resulting in patches of orange and black coat...
Genetics I was wondering how female calico cats express both an x chromosome with the orange trait and one x chromosome with the black trait if x inactivation occurs? If one of her x chromosomes is inactivated then wouldn't just that one color be left to be expressed? Also are all labrador retrievers carriers of the "e" chromosome? Does epistasis occur so the gene can't express pigment? Thanks for any help!!

6. The world's first cloned pet, the kitten CC (a play on the words Copy Cat and Carbon Copy) was the result of a nuclear transfer experiment in which the nucleus from the diploid somatic cells of a female calico cat named Rainbow was injected into an egg (from an unnamed donor cat) whose own nucleus had been removed previously (similar to the "Three Parent Baby" experiment described in Lecture 12). The reconstituted egg was then implanted into the uterus...

X-linked Recessive Traits Review X-linked traits in your textbook. 1 In cars, the Ballele produces black fur & b produces orange fur. This gene is X-linked (X & X". Both colors are expressed in heterozygotes calico). If alcat has 2 calico kittens, 1 male black kitten, and I female orange kitten, what is the ty p henotype of the father cat? (Hint: Work backwards & use a Punnett square Remember that not every...

3. In pigs, black hair (B) is dominant to red hair (b). Erect ears (E) are dominant to drooping ears (e). What are the expected proportions of the different phenotypes resulting from a mating between two pigs heterozygous for both traits? SHOW A PUNNETT SQUARE 4. There are 2 colors in color squash, white & yellow. White (W) is dominant over yellow (w). What are the expected genotype and phenotype frequencies for each of the...
