ANSWER :-

  1. Ann's hummingbird male shows a characteristic red colour head region which is called as hood and the females basically tends to be dull. So, this indicates that the males are more bright and attractive than the females and the males use this as a display mechanism to attract a mate.
  2. Other ways include competition among the males usually displaying their strength and flying abilities. Humming birds basically fly upto a height and undergoes a downward movement which is a displayal of their accuracy and strength and thus helps to attract a mate. They also show different types of movements in air such as in a criss-cross manner which is a part of displayal mechanism.
