Answer #1

Ans- Biodiversity can be measured at any spatial scale.

Alpha diversity also known local diversity is the number of species in a small area of homogenous habitat.

Gamma diversity also known as regional diversity is the total number of species observed in all habitats with in a geographic area that includes no significant barriers to the dispersal of organisms.

If each species occurred in all habitats with in a region then local and regional diversity would be same, however if each habitat has a unique biota regional diversity would equal the sum of local diversities of all the habitats in the region.

Beta diversity is the difference or turnover in species from one habitat to another. The greater the difference in species between habitats greater the beta diversity.

According to Whittaker measures beta diversity is the regional diversity divided by local diversity

Or B= 0

Because \alpha can vary only between 1 and \gamma

Beta =1 if all species occur in all communities i.e. a =

And B=7 when all communities have single species

Hence here option C i.e. beta diversity differs between alpha and gamma diversity is correct.

Hello, I just need help answering these 2 questions. I am confused as to what I am supposed to do since they seem pretty straightforward but I do not want to get them wrong. Thank you. Exercise 3: Diversity and Spatial Scale Species diversity typically increases with greater area sampled or the scale of perception. For instance, you will tend to find the lowest number of species at local sites and the maximum number when a whole region is considered....

1.Which of the following statements about species-accumulation curves is TRUE? Only gamma diversity can be estimated using species-accumulation curves Species-accumulation curves are a technique to estimate alpha diversity of a relatively homogenous site Species richness will be estimated correctly using species-accumulation curves even if there are only a few samples The order in which samples are processed will not affect the precise shape of species-accumulation curve 2. Which of the following statements about beta diversity is TRUE? Beta diversity does...

    10. Write a one-page summary of the attached paper? INTRODUCTION Many problems can develop in activated sludge operation that adversely affect effluent quality with origins in the engineering, hydraulic and microbiological components of the process. The real "heart" of the activated sludge system is the development and maintenance of a mixed microbial culture (activated sludge) that treats wastewater and which can be managed. One definition of a wastewater treatment plant operator is a "bug farmer", one who controls the aeration...

We conducted a comprehensive literature search on drones in conservation up to October 2nd 2018, in line with related studies [10,11,35]. All searches were done by the same person in English, mainly using Google Scholar. This was further complemented through reference harvesting, citation tracking, abstracts in conference programs, and author search, using Research Gate and Mendeley (see PRISMA Flowchart in Supplementary Figure S1 Checklist and list of studies reviewed in Table S1). We then removed duplicate and unrelated results. Finally,...
