Answer #1

Since Curled green leaves is maximum in number, the traits curled leaf(C) and green colour (G) are dominant traits smoothness (c)and purple color (g)are recessive traits.

1.It is given that the parents had curled green leaves, if they were both homozygous dominant, there would have been no possibility of having progeny which had smooth and purple leaves. Therefore, the parents should be Heterozygous in order to obtain progeny in the ratio of 9:3:3:1. Hence, genotype of parents is CcGg.

2.Genotype of plants with curled ,green leaves can be CCGG,CcGg ,CcGG or CCGg.

3.Genotype of plants with smooth ,purple leaves would be ccgg.

    2. Let's say that you are a breeder interested in developing a new variety of pea with purple flowers and you have decided to discard any plant that has white flowers. You cross two true-breeding parents together (one purple and one white) and you are debating whether to grow out the F population and visually select for purple flowers or to use a CAPS marker and select based on genotype. List 2 circumstances in which it would be better for...

Which of the following is not necessary for a 3-point mapping experiment? One parent must be heterozygous for all alleles One parent must be homozygous recessive for all alleles Phenotypes must clearly reflect the genotype Linkage on the same chromosome Three or more alleles for each genetic loci You are following two recessive traits for yellow colored leaves that are wrinkled. A cross is performed between a plant that has green, smooth leaves that is heterozygous at both loci, with...

Punnett Square for Question #4 is a the top Punnett Square Genotypic ratio: Phenotypic ratio: 5. Purple flowers (P) are completely dominant over white flowers (p). If a pea plant is heterozygous for purple flowers, can any of this plant's offspring have all purple flowers? Think about the different genotypes with which you can cross the hetero- zygous parent: homozygous dominant, heterozygous, and homozygous recessive. Use three Punnett squares to show your work for each possible phenotype. Heterozygous purple pea...

    8) You plant some of Johnny and Jenny's offspring. Two in particular become your favorite plants and you name them Jamie and Josie. You decide to cross these two plants together (you can cross siblings in plants, but this is not really something that occurs very often in humans for various reasons!). Place the gametes that would result from meiosis in Jamie and Josie in the top row for Jamie and left column for Josie of the Punnett square. Then...

I’m so confused by this, please explain Punnett Squares Reginald Punnett was a British geneticist who developed the Punnett square to explain how the chromosomes of parents cross and produce offspring. In order to solve genetics problems using a Punnett square, it is necessary to a) understand the associated vocabulary and b) understand some of the rules for solving the problems. · Before you continue with the problems below, review the meaning of the terms allele, dominant, recessive, homozygous, heterozygous,...

You decide that you want to replicate some of Mendel’s original results. You begin your experiment with plants that have true breeding traits, one set of plants that have purple flowers and round seeds, the other with white flowers and wrinkled seeds. You do a cross and the progeny (F1 generation) are all purple flowering and produce round seeds. What is the probability that a cross between two F1's will yield offspring that are white and with wrinkled seeds? Seed...
