Answer #1

ANSWER 1. Your plant * a plant that produces only green seeds

Here the explanation.

To determine the genotype of the progeny, the test cross has been performed in which heterozygote individual( progeny) and recessive homozygous (individual parent)crossed. The main purpose of a test cross is to determine if this progeny is homozygous dominant or heterozygous.

if we cross the YY or Yy( Yellow seed colour) and yy ( green seed colour), we will get the heterozygous Yy)individual.

If we cross Yy and yy, we will get the following progeny and following ratios:

The genotypes that we will get are - YY Yy Yy yy

Genotypic ratio - 1:2:1, 1 yellow seed plant: 2 yellow seed plant: 1 green seed plant

Phenotypic ratio - 3 yellow seed plant:1 green seed plant

so this test cross, makes us understand about the genotype of the F1 heterozygous individual could produce.

However, with the other options, we will not be able to tell the exact phenotype of the obtained progeny.

OPTION   B and C are kinds of part of the back cross which has been used to improve the trait of the individual. For example, we will back cross the progeny with the parent who will dominate and will have a better trait.

Options D and E do not apply, because the first option which is correct, counteract to these options

You are interested in the inheritance of seed color (the Y-locus) and seed shape (the S-locus) in corn plants. At the seed color locus, the Y allele (yellow seeds) is dominant to the y-allele (white seeds). At the seed shape locus, the S allele (smooth seeds) is dominant to the s allele (rough seeds).
