what will happen to the proton gradient produced by the electron transport chain in the presence of carbon dioxide? are the protons still going to go against their concentration gradient in the presence of carbon dioxide? are they still going to go down their concentration gradient?

There is sufficient evidence that a reduction in mitochondrial respiration of plants occurs when co2 is increased. The co2 concentration decreases the pH which dissipated the proton gradient ultimately decrease the ATP synthesis.
