Answer #1

Ans) The protons are concentrated in the intermembrane space i.e, between inner and outer mitochondrial membrane.

EXPLANATION:

In oxidative phopshorylation of cellular respiration, protons are pumped out of the mitochondrial matrix into the intermembrane space. This results in electrochemical gradient formation across the inner mitochondrial membrane. When protons in the inter membrane space flow down back to the matrix by ATP synthase present in the inner membrane, energy is released and is utilized to form ATP.

In mitochondria, a proton gradient is established by the movement of electrons through the electron transport chain. Protons are moved to the intermembrane space against the concentration gradient and the flow back to the matrix via facilitated diffusion using the ATP synthase. Describe how this proton flow contributes to ATP synthesis and the role played by aspartic acid in this process.

Cellular respiration: The Electron Transport Chain The breakdown of glucose ends during the Krebs cydle; however, it is important to note that the energy previously contained in glucose is mostly stored in NADH and FADHz. In the last step of celular respiration, the high-energy electrons within NADH and FADH2 are passed within a set of proteins found in the inner membrane of the mitochondrion, collectively known as the electron transport chain. The electrons provide the energy to create ATP, which...

The electron transport chain consists of protein complexes embedded in the inner mitochondrial membrane, where it generat a proton gradient by a series of oxidation-reduction, or redox, reactions. Although all of the stages of cellular respiration (glycolysis, the citric acid cycle, and the electron transport chain) are necessary for life, the electron transport chain is sometimes called the most important stage. First complete the sentence, then answer the question. The electron transport chain uses the transfer of protons between protein...

Question 37 (1 point) In cellular respiration, electrons are moved along a series of membrane proteins during the electron transport chain. If there was a mutation in the DNA coding for each of the proton pumps of the electron transport chain such that these proteins became non-functional, what would you predict to occur? NADH and FADH2 would have to donate their electrons directly to ATP synthase in order for ATP synthesis to occur. All electrons would have to be stripped...
