Though, epigenetic modification has been performed.

In fertilized eggs there are many maternal gene which is present in the cytoplasm of the egg .

When zygote is formed this factors will control various other proteins level by regulating translation of transcription or controlling some other protein's post transcription regulation.

Like in drosophila, bicoid in anterior portion inhibit caudal and stimulate the synthesis of Hunchback protein this two effects will help the anterior portion to be anterior.
