Answer #1

Since Interference is 50%, observed number of Double Recombinants is 50% of the Expected number of double recombinants. Therefore out of 1000 progeny, while 20 progeny were expeceted to be double crossovers, only 10 must be obseved.

That is, as opposed to a 2% double crossover frequency, a 1% double crossover frequency was observed.

Now with complete interference (no double crossovers), 70% of progeny is of parental type (35% a+ b+ c+ ; 35% a b c) and the remaining 30% has single crossovers.

Assuming 50% interference, 35.5% of progeny will be either parental type (a+ b+ c+ or a b c). Therefore,

In Drosophila, the autosomal recessive traits for dumpy wings (dp) and cinnabar eyes (cn) are found on chromosome 2, separated by 44 map units. The allele for shaven bristles (sv) is found on chromosome 4 and is also recessive. A female with shaven. bristles is crossed to a male expressing dumpy wings and cinnabar eyes. FI females are test-crossed to males expressing all three traits. 3. What proportion of F2 flies (of either sex) will be completely wild type? a....

Please help (2) In Drosophila there are three genes lozenge (z), singed (s), and crossveinless (c), with each mutant allele recessive to the wild type allele. A cross between females heterozygous for these three loci and wild-type males yielded the following progeny: Females1010 Males + 39 430 +Cz 32 s27 C+ 441 SCz 31 Using these data, construct a linkage map (4 points) of the 3 genes and calculate the coefficient of coincidence (2 points) and interference (2 points).

A yellow-bodied, white-eyed, and a homozygous normal winged female fly was crossed to a male with wild type body, wild type eyes, and cut wings. The Fi females were wild type for all three traits, while the Fi males had yellow bodies, white eyes, normal wings. The Fi females were crossed to yellow bodied, white eyed, cut wing males. A geneticist is using a three-point testcross to map three linked Drosophila recessive mutations called a, b, and c, where a is associated with anomalous gait; b is associated with buckled wings; and c is associated with curved bristles. She first crosses homozygous anomalous, buckled flies to homozygous curved flies. Next, she testcrosses the F1 progeny to anomalous, buckled, curved flies. She obtains 1000 progeny distributed as the following results. From this data, calculate the map distance between a and...

FIVE. You have identified a new mutant in Drosophila that defines a gene you call “red.” When mutant it causes the “neck” of the fly (cervical connective) to be red. It behaves as an autosomal recessive mutation with alleles red+ and red-. You suspect it is linked to two known genes on the second chromosome “re” and “ti”. The re- mutation behaves as an autosomal recessive. Homozygous mutant flies fixate on TV reruns, “re+” normal flies avoid TV. The “ti”...

Drosophila females of wild-type appearance but heterozygous for three autosomal traits are mated to males that are homozygous recessive for the three traits.  The three autosomal recessive traits are glassy eyes (g), coal-colored bodies (c), and striped thoraxes (t). The three dominant traits are red eyes (g+), gray bodies (c+) and solid thoraxes (t+) (remember, the wild-type allele has a + after it). You examine 1000 progeny of the above cross and they have the following phenotypic classes:                             265      g+c+t+                         275      gct                                     120          g+ct...
