Ans A seed protects a plant embryo. It also contains a supply of food for the new plant and it aids in the plant dispersal.

This is an evolutionary adaptation. Seeds have storage tissue called the endosperm which provides nutrition for the developing embryom. Seeds are produced in large numbers and also wither on their own which helps in multiplication .So plants reproduce independantly. Seeds also have a seed coat which protects the embro in unfavourable conditions from dessicating .

Seeds do not necessarily require water during germination as the seed holds water .

Theses are all evolutionary adaptations of a seed .
