Answer #1

Zika virus disease is caused bya virus transmitted by the vector mosquito from the genus Aedes. Zika virus infection during pregnancy can cause infants to be born with microcephalic condition and other neuronal disorders associated with abnormal brain development. The research article on zika virus has got the attention of scientific community becaus this paper has detailed a specific mutation in the structural protein, prM encoded RNA genome was found to be the basic reason behind the infectivity of zika virus. The mutation is a simple substitution of amino acid serine to asparagine. This has substantially increased the infective nature of zika virus. Also this research work is the first scientifically validated study regarding a specific mutation that enhances the virulence of zika virus. So the interested researchers may extend this work by focussing on this specific mutation.

The zika virus was initially discovered from sentinal monkey during 1947. But it remained calm and composed untill th recent outbreak.

Genetics Worksheet Week 3: Gene Regulation and Epigenetics 1. Duchenne muscular dystrophy is caused by a mutation in a gene that is 2.5 million nucleotides in length and encodes a protein called dystrophin. The dystrophin protein itself is 3684 amino acids in length. Calculate below the approximate size of the mRNA that encodes dystrophin. Approximately what percentage of the gene that encodes dystrophin is intron sequence? The human genome encodes a much greater variety and number of proteins than the...

Since the 1980s, HIV (Human Immunodeficiency Virus) has been infecting humans around the world causing the condition known as AIDS (Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome). HIV, like all viruses, needs to enter cells and use their machinery to reproduce and spread. During HIV infection, the virus enters specific cells of the immune system (T-cells) by "docking" onto cell surface proteins, including one called CCR5 Genetic analysis of individuals who are naturally immune (resistant) to HIV have revealed that resistance to HIV...

For this assignment, we will consider a protein expressed in the liver of an African cheetah (Acinonyx jubatus). Biochemists determined that this protein is involved in the production of glycogen. In a stunning announcement, a snowboarder in Antarctica claims to have found a new species of cheetah that is able to survive freezing temperatures and a long, dark winter. The snowboarder described a slow, fat, white-furred cheetah that may be related to the African cheetah. Scientists isolated a fragment of...
