Answer #1

To answer this question, first of all, we have to know the type of bacteria present in each of the test rubes.

Aerobes require oxygen for performing respiration, whereas anaerobes don't require oxygen for yielding ATP.

Tube A: In tube A, we can see that all the bacteria are present on the upper surface only as they require oxygen which is absolutely necessary for their survival. These type of microorganisms are known as obligate aerobes.

Tube B: In this case, the bacteria are present throughout the test tube but the density is much higher near the surface. These bacteria are known as the facultative anaerobes. They can perform respiration with oxygen and can swich to anaerobic respiration too.

Tube C: In this case, the microorganisms are present on the lower surface only i.e at the bottom of the test tube as they don't need oxygen for their survival. These are known as obligate anaerobes. Presence of oxygen is harmful to them.

Tube D: In tube D, the bacterial cells are present more or less uniformly across the test tube. They can tolerate little oxygen but oxygen is not required for their survival. They are called aerotolerant anaerobes.

Tube E: In tube E, we can see that the bacteria are present just below the surface. These type of microorganisms require oxygen in very less quantity. A high level of oxygen is often harmful to them.

Based on the above discussion, we can conclude the following ---

Microaerophiles- tube E

Aerotolerant anaerobes- tube D

Obligate aerobes- tube A
