Question

Fill in these notes and submit as a seperate document, or do a text entry, or print and photograph to turn in. For the birds 50-56, just photograph and attach what you've filled in for each bird.

Write down 10 things you notice about this diagram.   I’ll give you one as an example.

Answer #1

1. Magma becomes Igneous rock by cooling. (This is the example that you mentioned)

2. Igneous rocks break down to sediments by the process of weathering and erosion.

3. The sediments by compaction and cementation form the sedimentary rocks.

4. Heat and pressure change sedimentary rock to metamorphic rock.

5. Magma is formed by the melting of metamorphic rock.

6. The igneous rock upon melting forms magma.

7. By heat and pressure, igneous rock can become metamorphic rock.

8. Weathering and erosion convert metamorphic rock to sediments.

9. Sediments can also be formed by the weathering and erosion of sedimentary rock.

10. The figure shows the cycling of rocks and magma formation.

What properties cause some magmas to be more felsic than others?Different minerals crystallize at different temperatures, changing the chemistry. Some parts of the mantle are felsic and some are mafic, creating felsic magma in the crust.Water from subducting ocean plate mixes with the magma to create felsic magmaAnimals change the chemistry of the magma, making it more felsic.Silica content in igneous rocks controls (select the correct term)["texture", "viscosity", "crystal size"]         which, in turn, controls   ["eruption style", "crystal size"]      ...
