Most schools and businesses require some standard style of documentation for written reports. Discuss why might that be. What disadvantages, if any, might there be to insisting that all reports conform to a certain style?

The biggest reason for such practice is to induce the need and benefits of standardization among st students and employees. Standardization leads to better repeat ability and greater efficiency over the time leading to better communication with end user of the report. Also, with the same standard style of written reports, customers over the time become accustom to a certain standard and hence responds efficiently leading to customer delight and better velocity in business transactions.

One disadvantage that arise due to such practice is that it kills the creativity in the communication. Some times there is a special case where the customer or student might need to put in a report in a different manner and then the standardization becomes hindrance leading to confusion.
