Answer #1

Smooth skin = SS, Ss

Scaly skin = ss

Genotype of hagrid mates = Ss (not SS, because of them had a parent with scaly skin, ss)

Ss × Ss

Smooth skin = 3/4

Scaly skin = 1/4

Gametes S s
S SS smooth Ss smooth
s Ss smooth ss scaly

Answer is 3/4

In the Japanese morning glory, purple flower color may be caused by dominant alleles at either one of two separate gene pairs, A_bb or aaB_. When dominant alleles are present at both gene pairs (A_B_), the flower color is blue, and when both are homozygous recessive (aabb), the color is scarlet. A blue F1 was therefore produced by crossing two different purple types AAbb x aaBB. A. What phenotypes in what proportion would you expect from crossing this F1 to...

You are investigating two traits in fruit flies controlled by one autosomal dominant gene each. The B gene controls for body color (B=black or b=brown), while the r gene controls for body sculpture (R=rugose or r=smooth). After crossing heterozygous rugose black flies with homozygous smooth brown flies, you obtain an F1 generation of 100% rugose black flies. 1. What are the dominant alleles? 2. What are the genotypes of the two parent flies to perform a dihybrid cross? 3. Of...

Skin color in rod puppets is controlled by multiple alleles at the same locus. The C allele produces wild-type green skin. The C^O allele produces orange skin. A third allele, c^t produces tan skin. In this allelic series, the C^O allele is dominant to C, which is dominant to c^t: C^O > C > c^t. An orange skinned male rod puppet named Princeton with the genotype C^O C falls in love with a tan skinned puppet named Kate. They have...
