Answer #1

Answer :- "c" i.e They capture the light energy as ATP and NADPH and then use that energy to form sugar which in turn can be stored or transported to place that need more energy.

Explanation :- Photosynthesis is the biosynthesis of simple sugars ( glucose and fructose ) in chloroplast using H2O and CO2 in the presence of sunlight.

Photosynthesis occur in plant in two step namely i. Light reaction.

ii. Dark reaction.

i. Light reaction :-

a. Light reaction occur in grana .

b. Here the light energy is absorbed by the chlorophyll.

c. This light energy splits water molecules into H+ ions ,O2 and electrons by photolysis.

d. Then the electrons are transported through a series of electron carriers present in thylakoid membrane.

e. This electron transport produces reduced nucleotide adenosine di-phosphate (NADPH2) and ATP.

f. The NADPH2 and ATP are used for dark reaction.

ii. Dark reaction :-

a. Dark reaction occur in the stroma of chloroplast.

b. Dark reaction is the synthesis of sugars in the chloroplast by the Co2 reduction without influence of light.

c. In the dark reaction glucose is synthesized from Co2 by using ATP and NADPH2.

d. This glucose actually stored and transported to other parts of plant.

General equation :-

6Co2 +12H2O= C6H12O6 + 6H2O+ 6O2

So on the basis of above mentioned explanation the answer is C.

  • How Do Chloroplasts Capture Energy from the Sun?

How Do Chloroplasts Capture Energy from the Sun? Plant cells and some algae contain an organelle called the chloroplast. The chloroplast allows plants to harvest energy from sunlight, a process known as photosynthesis. Specialized pigments in the chloroplast absorb sunlight and use this energy combine carbon dioxide and water to make glucose and oxygen. The complete reaction is: 6CO2 + 6H2O + C6H12O6 + 6O2 Raw Materials (Reactants) CO2 = carbon dioxide H2O = water Products C6H1206 = glucose O2 = oxygen Plant cells can...

    5. Photosynthetic adaptations to extreme environments Aa Aa Rubisco carries out photorespiration when the ratio of O2 to CO2 is too high. As a result, certain plants have adaptations meant to keep this ratio low in tissue locations where their photosynthetic cells need to use Rubisco. The following image describes how when these two sets of events occu plants prevent photorespiration. Review A plant uses solar energy to make ATP and NADPH, which then drive the synthesis of carbohydrates in the leaves. At least one carbohydrate, sucrose, is translocated to nonphotosynthetic parts of the plant (stems, roots, flowers, and fruits) for use as a source of energy. Thus, ATP is used to make sucrose, and the sucrose is then used to make ATP. It would seem simpler for the plant just to make ATP and translocate the ATP itself directly to...
