Answer #1

1) a. to split water to produce O2 and high energy electrons.

Photons from the sunlight are used for photolysis of water at the reaction centers of chlorophyll. The photolysis of water produces O2 and high energy electrons which then go on to excite the reaction centers and continue a electron transport chain to produce NADPH which will then be utilized in the dark reaction of photosynthesis to produce glucose.

2) c. Breakdown products from fatty acids bypass glycolysis and feed directly into the citric acid cycle (kreb's cycle).

Fatty acids are metabolized through beta oxidation which yields NADH, FADH2, ATP and acetyl coA. Acetyl coA is further broken down through kreb's cycle, while NADH and FADH2 undergo through electron transport chain and yield ATP through oxidative phosphorylation. Thus, glycolysis is bypassed in fatty acid metabolism.

3) b. They would be converted to carbon dioxide.

Glucose is broken down into two molecules of pyruvate at the end of glycolysis. 3 carbon pyruvate molecule loses 1 carbon in the form of CO2 and produces acetyl coA which enters the Kreb's cycle. During Kreb's cycle, acetyl coA combines with oxaloacetate and goes through the cycle yielding it's 2 carbons as 2 CO2 molecules, and oxaloacetate is regenerated at the end. Thus, all the carbon atoms of glucose end up as carbon dioxide..

4) b. Stomata

Carbon dioxide enters the leaf through tiny pores known as stomata. Grana are the site of light reaction of photosynthesis, while vacuoles are sac like organelles in the plant cell, usually used for maintaining the turgor pressure of cell and storage. Chloroplasts are cell organelles responsible for photosynthesis.
