The inoculation loop was flamed before taking the inoculum.

Flaming the loop before taking the inoculum for streaking is a standard procedure for streaking the agar plate to obtain single colonies. Ideally, this method is followed to isolate single colonies of the microbes, so it does not explains as to why it diidn't give single colonies. Not flaming the loop or contamination can lead to multiple colonies that are uncountable because of cross contamination etc. and if the other quadrants are streaked from the first quadrant, then it is possible that the inoculum amount is low which may explain as to why we didn't get single colonies.
