The choice of a therapeutic agent depends upon its chemical nature. Whereas the pharmacophores targeted for use inside the body are preferred to be fat or water soluble, those required to be used on the body are required to be fat soluble. The reason behind it lies in the fact that the outer surface of body contains oils and hence an organic molecule will serve a good drug. Thus, long chain fatty acid containing drugs as well as complex organic structures work very nicely in greasy surface.
