What is your null hypothesis?

tell me which of the four asci show evidence of crossing over. It could be 0-4 of the asci shown.

Low Starch, Tall: 104

Low Starch, Short: 48

High Starch, Tall: 35

High Starch, Short: 17

This is the question 3

In this lab, we were hoping to be able to do some genetics experiments with your fast plants. That doesn't get to happen now, but THINK about those fast plants for a minute. Based on the setup of the fast plant experiment (see powerpoint slides 28-32 for more details), answer the following prompts.

1. What would be a good quality and reasonable hypothesis for experiment 8.1 (the monohybrid cross described on slide 31)?

2. What would be your prediction for the results from this experiment, if your hypothesis is true?

3. What would be a good quality and reasonable hypothesis for experiment 8.2 (the dihybrid cross described on slide 32)?

4. What would be your prediction for the results from this experiment, if your hypothesis is true?

Answer #1

1. What would be a good quality and reasonable hypothesis for experiment 8.1 (the monohybrid cross described on slide 31)?

Because the cross is a monohybrid cross = AA X aa

a a
A Aa Aa
A Aa Aa

The F1 plats will be Aa and we know all of them are purple

A good hypothesis would be that purple is a dominant character (A = purple).

2. What would be your prediction for the results from this experiment, if your hypothesis is true?

If the hypothesis is true for the F2 a cross of Aa for Aa we will also expect a majority of purple plants but also some green plants

A a
A Aa Aa
a AA aa

Aa = purple
AA = purple
aa = green
3/4 = purple and 1/4 =green

3. What would be a good quality and reasonable hypothesis for experiment 8.2 (the dihybrid cross described on slide 32)?

Because the cross is a dihybrid cross = AABB X aabb

ab ab ab ab
AB AaBb AaBb AaBb AaBb
AB AaBb AaBb AaBb AaBb
AB AaBb AaBb AaBb AaBb
AB AaBb AaBb AaBb AaBb

The F1 plats will be AaBb and we know all of them purple steam / green leafs

A good hypothesis would be that purple is a dominant character for steam (A = purple) and that green is also a dominant character for leves (B = green) .

4. What would be your prediction for the results from this experiment, if your hypothesis is true?

If the hypothesis is true for the F2 a cross of AaBb x AaBb we will also expect a majority of purple steam / green leafs plants but also all the other possible variations.

AB Ab aB ab
AB AABB AABb AaBB AaBb
Ab AABb AAbb AaBb Aabb
aB AaBB AaBb aaBB aaBb
ab AaBb Aabb aaBb aabb

AxBx = purple steam / green leafs plants
Axbb = purple steam / yellow leafs plants
aaBx = green steam / green leafs plants
aabb= green steam / yellow leafs plants

    98 Mendelian Genetics Exercise D: Mendel's Dihybrid Cross But wait there's morel Mender's monohybrid crosses established that inheritance of phenotypes happened by the interactions of discrete particles' (we now call alleles). Further, he discovered that those alleles segregate during the process of meiosis in the production of gametes, which recombine during fertilization. The result of these two insights can easily be predicted by a technique developed by R. C. Punnett. Once these principles were established, Mendel sought to understand how...

    Evaluating your phenotypes and genotypes and testing a genetic hypothesis in corn There are two activities in this write up. In the first, you will evaluate your phenotypes and genotypes and relate them to parental phenotypes and genotypes. In the second, you will test a hypothesis using a monohybrid cross in corn and carry out a Chi-squared analysis. For the write up, please copy and paste the remaining part of the Lab document into a new document, then fill in...
