higher mutation rates at antigenic sites to avoid immune recognition.

Pathogens have a high mutation rate at antigenic sites to avoid immune recognition. Social evolution is geared towards higher public health standards and an overall low mutation rates in pathogen genomes will lead to them becoming redundant in terms of pathogenicity as they will be easily recognized by the immune system and taken care of. Hign mutation rates of immune cells when infected with pathogens help in providing immunity against the pathogen.
