a. Computed tomography requires measurement, at different angles, of the dose profile of the fan shaped x-ray beam after attenuation by the patient. To achieve this a quickly rotating gantry containing an x-ray tube and detector array are used.

b.  The pitch in multislice spiral CT is defined as the ratio of the table increment over the detector collimation in this study.
