A) Interior protein network

1. Helps determine the overall shape of a cell. ( Network of interlinking proteins inside the cell cytoplasm is known as cytoskeleton and it helps in maintaining cell shape and internal organisation).

B) Phospholipid bilayer

1. Forms a semipermeable membrane. (Cell membrane made up of two layers of phospholipids allows only certain molecules to pass through it.)

2. Can allow of diffusion of gases. ( Cell membrane is permeable to non polar molecules and gases).

C) Transmembrane protein

1. Can span both layers of a membrane. (Transmembrane protein is an integral membrane protein that span both layers of a membrane).

2. Can form channels to allow small molecules to cross membranes. (Transmembrane proteins can act as passage for ions and molecules).

D) Cell surface marker

1. Often carbohydrates attached to lipid or protein. (Carbohydrates attached to lipid or protein act as cell surface marker e.g. A and B antigen present on the surface of red blood cells).
