SUBLIMATION REQUIRES MORE ENERGY

The atoms are separated more by making a gas and their bonds broken fully. In the liquid melt, the bonds are still mostly there, just longer in length from heat and disorder. All those bonds in the liquid are further broken in evaporation. So, sublimation is roughly the addition of the two energies but less than the simple sum of melting enthalpy and evaporation enthalpy.
