Initially, there is a diploid cell with say 2 chromosomes. Each chromosome have one chromatid. This is the condition of the cell before entering cycle and in G1 as well.

Then in S phase, DNA will duplicate and now each chromosome will have 2 chromatids. We have a cell with 2 pairs of chromosomes.

This will enter meiosis.

After meiosis 1, there will be reduction division. Each cell will have one chromosome of each pair. Two cells will be formed. So, a cell will become haploid.

We have 2 cells with 2 chromosomes each, one of each pair and this will enter meiosis 2 which is same as mitosis.

This is equational division. In the end, each cell will have one chromatid of each chromosome. So, each cell will have 2 different chromatids and the cell will be haploid.
