What does consolidation and reconsolidation tell us about how the brain encodes memories?
Brain is an important organ of body.It has several number of neurons through which the information is passed through neurotransmitters. So its all about the network and working of neurons.Memory is a very important task of brain.Memory may be short term, long term or sensory.Sensory memory is the memory received by the sense organs and it the shortest term of memory.Short term kmemory is the memory which is for short time like to do any work and then just let it go .short term memory is effected by the persons environment and surroundings.Long term memory is that the information is stored for a longer time.
Now consolidation is a process in which memory is stabilized after it gets into brain initially. It is of two types:1)Synaptic consolidation it happens after few hours of learing. 2)system consolidation in which memory takes times and become hippocampus independent in weeks or years. All this happens due to the neural network.
Reconsolidation is a process in which already consolidated memories are recalled or again repeated in order to maintain or strengthen the memories in the long term state. It can be done by continuous repetations and slowly .
