Answer #1

Antisepsis- A dad takes care of his daughter's injury after she falls from her bicycle and scrapes her knee. Antisepsis is defined as the application of chemical agents to the tissues that kills or inhibits the growth of potentially pathogenic microorganisms thus preventing an infection.

Disinfection- A school was closed after a high percentage of students suffered vomiting and diarrhea. Disinfection is defined as the process by which potentially pathogenic microorganisms are killed, removed or reduced by using chemical disinfectant. It is not necessarily that a disinfectant will sterilize an object but will reduce the total microbial population and will kill the harmful pathogenic microorganisms that may cause various diseases.

Sterilization-A microbiologist is preparing nutrient broth tubes so she can batch culture E.coli. Sterilization is defined as the process by which all the living cells, spores and viruses are either killed or removed from the media or object. Sterile objects are entirely free from any kind of viable microorganisms.

Sanitization- The janitor cleans the bathrooms at the mall. Sanitization is defined as the reduction of the microbial populations to a level that are considered safe as per public health standards laid down by different health agencies.
