Unequal crossing over during prophase I can result in one sister chromosome with a deletion and another with a duplication. A mutated form of hemoglobin, so-called hemoglobin Lepore, exists in the human population. Hemoglobin Lepore has a deleted series of amino acids. If this mutated form was caused by unequal crossing over, and removed TAGGATA, what does a normal and a Lepore gene look like? Draw a diagram illustrating a normal and a diagram of a Lepore gene.

Answer #1

HOMO LOGOUS CHROMOSOMES Unequal crossing over. TAGGATA TAGGATA MISALIGNMENT Short repeated DNA sequences NORMAL GENE LEPORE_GHere, due to misalignment deletion occurs on one chromosome and duplication on the other as a result of mutation. Please refer to picture attached.

Hope that helps:)

Please do give it a thumps up.

Thank you!

A mutated form of hemoglobin, known as hemoglobin Lepore occurs rarely in the human population. Hemoglobin Lepore has a deleted set of amino acids. If it were caused by unequal crossing over, what would be an expected consequence? The deleted gene must have undergone exon shuffling. The deleted region must be located in a different area of the individual's genome. Each of the genes in the hemoglobin gene family must show the same deletion. If it is still maintained in...
