Problem (Who is guilty?) In this new episode of of Star Trek, Captain Kirk has kindly let three very strange creatures coming on board of the Starship Enterprise. Unfortunately, Spock discovers that those creatures (denoted A, B, C) may have brought a virus to the operating system of the Enterprise, making it incapable of flying at light speed anymore. During the interrogation those creatures make the following claims: A says: “B did it and C is innocent”, • B says: “If A is guilty then C is guilty too”, • C says: “I did not do it. One of the others, or maybe both of them did it”. 1. Are the three statements contradictory? 2. Assuming that all of them are guilty, who lied during the interrogation? 3. 1. The three statements are not contradictory as A accuses B and says C is innocent. B says if A is guilty C is guilty too which does not contradict A's statement. C says one of the other maybe both are guilty which does not contradict any statement either.

2. A and C lied, as A said C is innocent and C says it is innocent.

3. If nobody lied B is guilty.
