All the common stars which are nearest and brightest as seen from the earth have low distances (nearer) and low absolute magnitude ascompared to other stars that are in the list of nearest to the earth. This builds relationship that closer a star is the more brighter it will look , the farther star will look dimmer and the more important is that brighter objects have smaller absolute magnitude than fainter objects, the brightness of the stars are are recognized by the magnitude system , that how bright star appear to the unaided eye. The absolute magnitude is a measure of the star's luminosity ot is the total amount of energy radiated by the star every second.
