a helium atom has 2 protons and 2 nuetrons in the nucleus and 2 electrons revolving around the nucleus.

when a helium atom is doubly ionized i.e., the 2 electrons are removed, it is left with the 2 potons and 2 neutrons

as we know the mass of proton and nuetron is nearly the same, we represent an alpha particle with the nucleus of a helium
