Answer #1

The thyroid gland is one of the largest endocrine gland. The thyroid gland is found in the neck, below the thyroid cartilage. The thyroid gland controls how quickly the body uses energy, makes proteins, and controls how sensitive the body is to other hormones.

Thyroid and parathyroid works opposite. When blood calcium level is high thyroid gland releases calcitonin, balances calcium level. When calcium level falls, the parathyroid glands release hormone (PTH), causing the plasma calcium level to rise. This way calcium homeostasis is maintained, which cannot be maintained if thyroid gland is removed, ultimately leading to various malfunction.
