Answer #1

1.Blinds To Go is having difficulty in attracting and retaining retail staff because of the following reason:

  • Extremely high standard for recruitment of employees

  • The low unemployment rate affecting recruitment and making the offers less attractive

  • Fast and unplanned expansion of the retail stores created the issues of understaffed stores and increased workload on the existing employees

  • Internal factors like uncertainty regarding the promotion of the employees

  • Increased pressure on employees to perform in excellence

  • Changing the compensation system into a salary-based system

2.No, in my opinion, the elements of the organizational design at the retail level are not aligned to facilitate the retention of new employees.Because the change of the compensation system from a commission-based to a salary-based system discouraged most of the retail staff, which lead to a high rate of turnover. There was no training provided to retail staff. The change in the compensation system demotivated the employees in retail. Also, the high pressure on the retail staff due to understaffed retail stores in various locations leads to the staff's frustration. Again, there was a lack of team spirit because of the competition between the employees to perform better. The promotion strategy in BTG is also not aligned to retain new employees.

3. The following will be my recommendation for Blind To Go to improve their staffing practices:

  • Maintain a standard level of qualification-not too high, not too low-,for the recruitment of its employees

  • Make the job offerings more attractive by improving the payment structure and other benefits

  • Motivate the employees through various reward programs

  • Implement a strategy of performance-based bonus and compensation system

  • Provide the employees with various stress management programs

  • Promote a culture of teamwork and healthy competition
