Answer #1

1) mutation increases the number of alleles in the population, recombination between non-sister chromatids of the homolgous chromosomes changes the allele combination on the chromosome. Independent assortment of the chromosomes during meiosis changes the combination of chromosomes in the gamete, the gamete can get any of the chromosome from a homologous pair.

so all these proceses increases the genetic diversity of the population so the answer is e) all of the above are important in generating diversity in eukaryotes.

2) recombination is the exchange of genetic material between the nonsister chromatids of the homologous chromosomes during meiosis I.

sperms are produced by the meiosis of the germ cells, genetic recombination increases the genertic diversity, natural selection requires the genetic variants in the population, those variants with higher fitness are selected overtime.

genetic recombination is independent of the independent assortment, independent assortment depends on how the homologous pair is aligned along the metaphase plate during meiosis I.

genetic recombination does not normally occur in mitosis, so the answer is

e) during mitosis chromosomes can cross over and exchange segments of DNA so that chromsomes of gametes are different from those of their parents.
