Why do you cry if you have canals that drain tears into the nasal canal?

Tears are produced to keep the eyes moist. Tears flow from the lacrimal glands over the surface of the eye. The excess tears flow from the nasolacrimal duct which drains into the inferior nasal meatus. This is the reason the nose starts to run when a person is crying.
